England manager Gareth Southgate is in the frame to take over at Manchester United this summer if Ineos decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag, but no decision has yet been taken on the future of the under-pressure Dutch boss.
But any route to appointing Southgate would be difficult. He is tied up with England until the end of the European Championship in Germany, with the final taking place on July 14. Southgate is unlikely to consider destabilising the build-up to the tournament when England have such a strong chance of winning their first major trophy since 1966 this summer.
There would also potentially be a backlash from supporters if Ineos firmed up their admiration for Southgate, with the idea of appointing someone who hasn't managed a club side suffering Premier League relegation with Middlesbrough in 2009 not going down well with supporters. A lot will depend on how Ten Hag finishes the season, however, with no decision made on his future. He has a year remaining on his contract and has had a difficult second season at Old Trafford.
