Ex cop who cracked Emma Caldwell case on 'shamed' cops who failed to nail killer

A retired detective who cracked the Emma Caldwell murder case nine years ago has slammed Police Scotland for years of bungles and incompetence.

Gallacher said: "Police Scotland may be keen to stress they doggedly stuck at the case and finally got their man, all these years later. But, plainly, that is not the real story. "The case had been cracked at a very early stage but they were too blind to see it. And when it was put on a plate for them, they still refused to abandon their catastrophic focus on the wrong killers."

"The Turks had no prior knowledge of the area – but Packer did, categorically. He had taken Emma and other girls to this very spot for naked, outdoor sex.
