As people self-isolate, Netflix is playing a more important role in our lives than it already does and there’s one series that's on everyone’s lips…
So what’s all the hype about? Well, the series focuses on a man named Joe Exotic who owned an Oklahoma-based animal park. His real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage but he later changed his name to reflect his interests in exotic animals. We meet other characters aside from Joe, including animal-rights activist Carole Baskin and a fellow big cat breeder Bhagavan “Doc” Antle. Low and behold, everyone in the series is connected through their love of big cats.
Yet, Joe then looked for another hitman after it didn’t go ahead first time and ended up hiring an undercover FBI agent. What inspired Tiger King? Co-directors of the docuseries, Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, began filming Tiger King after Goode listed an animal dealer in South Florida and found a snow leopard in the back of the scalding hot van.
“What we started understanding in the big cat world is have a unique commonality between them, which is, ‘Look at me’… the status of having a tiger and the attention that gets them.”View gallery However, after the series was released activist Carole Baskin wasn’t impressed with how things had been made to look.
