Everything Everywhere All At Once makes you want to be a better person

Fear not, we won't go into any spoilers here, but in case you haven't heard much about the movie, here's some context. Evelyn Wang is an exhausted Chinese American laundromat owner who just needs to finish her taxes, but life always throws something in her way.

And as she goes into her audit at the IRS, another obstacle arrives: the multiverse. It sets the stage for a head-spinning adventure as Evelyn must use alternate versions of herself to defeat a powerful being intent on destroying the cosmos., where Doctor Strange headed into the multiverse to stop an all-powerful being.

There's nobody who can say they haven't thought about how their life might pan out differently had another choice been made. Everybody has at least one 'what if' moment because that's what life is: a series of choices. When your own life isn't going the way you want or you're stuck in a rut, it's all too easy to fantasise what you could have been doing.

It's not just the script that makes it land as the Daniels couldn't have hoped for a better leading trio to sell their heartfelt revelation. Hopefully in this universe, it's a trio of performances that won't be forgotten come next year's awards race.Michelle Yeoh's Evelyn might be the audience surrogate through this multiverse, and she's fantastic in a long-overdue lead role.

They all manage to balance the wild possibilities of the multiverse with genuine emotion, so that even when something crazy isn't happening on screen, you're still fully invested. Without all three of them at the top of their game, the movie would end up being a fun but ultimately empty, multiverse trip like a certainis anything but empty.
