Conservatives hope for local election gains, but voters’ views on Partygate may help Labour cling on

with an iron grip for decades but the recent political upheaval has left it clinging to power. The party has a majority of only six councillors, meaning it could lose overall control of the council next month for the first time since it was founded in 1974.

How stupid is Sunderland? We will soon find out.

I live in the area, and the fact is that somehow Labour gets all of the blame for 13 years of Tory mistakes. The ignorance up here of how basic politics works is depressing.

I don't understand how you come up with this headline from the story you've reported. At no point is their any proof of the opinion you used. Comes to something when even are reporting conjecture as if they are facts.

Totally expected. It's Sunderland - a focus for rabid right-wing populism.

Are really going to vote Tory after partygate? If so they deserve everything the going to get.

“A change” to what though? Tories? Would be the worst decision they ever made. If it was a change to Lib Dem or Green, sure, but not Tories. Anyone but Tories.

I’m assuming nobody in Sunderland understands the Tory policy of looking after their own constituencies and depriving the rest?

Sunderland..the city that brought us the unmitigated disaster of Brexit…why am I not surprised that they think the Tories are going to help them? They’ll learn.

The rag being its usual non committal self. Allows itself to act with its usual retrospective slagging off or otherwise

Would sum up the stupidity of Sunderland if they vote Tory.

Its not fair that the tories have messed the country up yet labour seem to take the blame.

Labour deputy Angela Rayner blasts Tories over Basic Instinct claimsConservative MPs suggested Ms Rayner likes to distract the PM by deploying a fully-clothed Parliamentary equivalent of Sharon Stone's infamous scene in the 1992 film Basic Instinct. Glen Owen of your parish chose to write and publish this misogyny. Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahha It's actually the Fail on Sunday that ran a totally concocted story so they should get a fair share of the criticism.
