Brits are being encouraged to stockpile essentials like bottled water, spare batteries, tinned food, and wind-up torches to be "get prepared for emergencies" following new guidance from the government.
Yet, despite these experiences, it's worth questioning whether we're truly equipped to handle the next unforeseen disaster. Deputy PM Oliver Dowden has unveiled a fresh government initiative with the launch of a website named "Prepare," aimed at offering advice on how to respond to significant emergencies
The "Prepare" site outlines various steps UK residents can take to ensure they're not left vulnerable, including establishing home evacuation plans and selecting a convenient meeting point "for situations where you might not be able to return home." Deputy PM Dowden asserts that the measures are "about sensible safeguards, not stockpiling" and the website aims to provide "practical information for households to make those preparations" for threats listed on the government's national risk register.
