A “sustainability charge” on meat to cover its environmental damage could raise billions to help farmers and consumers produce and eat better food, according to a report.
The old continent striving to make meat the food of the rich like it was 150 years ago. eu_sucks
No wonder the UK abandoned ship
Amazing!!!
do the universe a favour and tax this thing out of existence ffs
TAPP coalition, the NGO which funded the report has people from Unilever in the board of Directors. The last attempt from large multinational companies to promote their ultraprocessed veggie alternatives full of additives. Tax on meat, but nothing on palm oil
Hard to find information after 2013 but air travel prices dropped 50% over 30years before that date must be room for taxes here. But you just go ahead and tax food again.
Completely stupid, these studies are inciting politicians to give a wonderful new monopoly market to food and chemical multinationals. These multinationals will dominate and manipulate the market of artificial meat like Nestle in the bottled water market
Good idea, poor people can still get Mc value meals & kfc. People that pay taxes should enjoy decent meat products: $30 is a reasonable price for a medium sized farm chicken, Beef & Veal produce should start at $20 for cheaper cuts up to $50 for quality.
& here it is... climate nonsense being inflicted on your food... these psychopaths stop at nothing for money... money, money, money
And the Guardian wonders why Brexit occurred.
Do EU bureaucrats count as meat?
What climate emergency? Do they just want to give themselves a pay raise and disguise it as something to tax? Yes, yes they do.
In my experience, meat was a special and infrequent something to have on the plate.
It won’t work, they had a sugar tax to stop obesity, fat kids everywhere still
A tax on food..... Yeh that'll please the poor families... what next the air we breathe. Letter hope it don't happen in this year then we won't have to adopt it....
1 kilo of beef takes 1500 litres of water to produce
Ffs, the traveling circus of what they call themselves the “Elite of Europe” at the EU Parliament /dictatorship not one ever worked a day in their lives and can subsist on a rabbit diet. Telling the proletariat what they can eat. Do you think they are eating bugs at Party palace
Excellent, but do it now not over the next 10 years
Got out just in time!
Taxing meat to pay EU people to have cocktail parties and act better than working class people?
just another tax grab
Good job we have left
Now that is feminism a meat tax ! By girth ? By length ? Length of dangle ?
About time.
If we turned dead people into food, this would also help save the environment
Banning lot fed beef will be the most effective. Pastured beef isn't the issue.
No.
what incredible BS. another reason why Brexit occurred
Thanks fuck we left the EU😀🥩
Fine. It's garbage.
It is best NOT to tax food that are sold to be cooked or prepared at home. In the USA the only foods that are taxed are foods prepared and sold in restaurants. It is seen as a luxury. At a donut shop, one up to five donuts are taxed but half a dozen or more are not taxed.
Can somebody let the Guardian know that UK is not in the EU anymore.
No bacon, no sausages no beef steak no lamb chops, no pork chops. Sounds like a utopian hell hole.
I think I'll stick to balance, of both plants and meat. Got to look after my Microbiome.
Thank god we have SBakerMD to stand up for us in the US!
Yes yes yes
No.
Hilarious. So, cows will be banned too, till 2035?
Brexit looking better all the time isn’t it...
Kiss my butt, EU!
Yep, thats gonna piss of farmers & consumers.. 🤦♂️
