BREAKING: The EU ambassador to Sudan has been assaulted in his own home, as violence escalates in the North African country.

The EU ambassador to Sudan has been assaulted in his own home, one of the bloc’s top diplomats has said.

The attack comes amid increasing violence in the North African country, as the army clashes with a paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces . Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, said: ‘Security of diplomatic premises and staff is a primary responsibility of Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law.’The EU ambassador in Sudan is Aidan O’Hara, though he was not named by Mr Borrell.

At least 185 people have been injured and more than 1,800 wounded in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum and other cities around the countryThere are currently disputed claims from both sides as to who is in control of the presidential palace and international airport.
