Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that defender Lisandro Martinez will not start this evening's Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
He had surgery on a recurring metatarsal fracture in September, suffered a medial collateral ligament injury to his knee in February and most recently suffered a calf strain. He has not started a Premier League fixture since February 4.READ MORE: Bruno Fernandes has proven why United only have one choice this summer
Ten Hag said: "We think Licha Martinez, after a long period, will be available. Not to start but coming from the bench. United have been decimated by injuries in defence throughout the campaign, particularly at centre-back. Jonny Evans returned against Crystal Palace a little over a week ago and has been partnered by Casemiro in the heart of the defence in each of the last two matches.
