A EUROPEAN observatory body has criticised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for cracking down on freedom of speech, saying it has denied the country “free and fair” elections.

Andrew Dawson, the head of the Council’s delegation, told reporters in Ankara that 22 observers were sent to around 140 polling stations across the country to watch people exercise their right to vote.He said while voting was “conducted in an orderly way” that was only part of what ensured fairness when it comes to a poll.
