Some things never change. As we leap into the new year and a new decade, fashion month is already upon us, sneakily lurking as the holiday season come to an end. It’s that lovely time of the year when designers present their new collections, editors run around town in chauffeured Mercedes-Benz cars, buyers are on the hunt for the items that they’d like to see fly off shelves in 6 months, influencers get their street style shots, parties and all kinds of events are organised.
So, where are we heading towards? What to prospect this season? For the next generations of shoppers and luxury aficionados, more inclusivity and more sustainability are expected from one of the most indirectly polluting industries in the world. But the fashion industry is also an important job provider – employing around 890,000 people across the industry in the UK – and according to latest reports, contributes to £32.03 billion to the UK GDP.
Fashion month kicks off tomorrow with London Fashion Week Men’s in London, or rather the London Fashion Weekend Men’s. The schedule has terribly shrunken. When the event launched in 2012 as London Collections: Men, it boasted 5 days of buoyancy, enriched with the energy of young designers with new ideas. Perhaps the British Fashion Council should merge the event with its women’s wear counterpart before London Fashion Week Men’s becomes London Fashion Day Men’s.
