England had a failed lockdown, through no fault of the population, who worked hard to observe it. But it was like trying to stop an overflowing bath by turning the tap half off, then turning it on again as soon as the flood slows down slightly. Johnson has failed us terribly.
Compare with NZ which did a real lockdown. Did that save lives? Obviously yes. They now have high BA.2 cases but many fewer deaths. Lockdowns are an extreme measure. They're only pointless if you do them too late/open too soon/fail to put other measures in place when you open up.
