The energy crisis has shown that ‘we must finally forgo fossil fuels’ as E.ON promises to ramp up green energy plans and pass on savings to customersE.ON, Europe’s biggest energy network operator has warned that the energy crisis was not over and told customers they“We must continue to work on the issue of austerity. This is the best way to ensure affordability for customers and also to achieve competitiveness of our society and our economy.
“We still have a doubling to tripling of gas prices from pre-Covid years,” Mr Birnbaum told Bloomburg TV.As he spoke European natural gas prices rose more than 30 per cent as the potential for liquefied natural gas supply disruptions from Australia unnerved traders. High gas-storage levels were reason to be optimistic Europe would cope this winter he said but added thatE.ON reported an €8bn increase in UK sales over the past six months. E.ON is the UK’s second largest supplier with over five million domestic customers.
It spent almost €2.4bn on renewable infrastructure in the first half of 2023, up 36 per cent from a year earlier.
