Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter on health scare that changed her attitude to her body

With her glowing skin, glossy hair and infectious smile, Lucy Pargeter radiates relaxed Hollywood glamour at our OK! Magazine photoshoot. So we can’t believe it when the Emmerdale beauty tells us that in real life, dressing up just isn’t her thing. “I’m not a girl,” confides Lucy. “I don’t like dressing up. That’s why you won’t find me at many awards ceremonies. It fills me with dread.

The scenes have been intense and emotional, but with her full family life, Lucy has learned not to bring her work home with her. “It is hard,” shares Lucy. “The days are long and daunting. There’s a lot of emotion but the days of me taking it home with me are long gone. When I walk into that house I’m a mum of three kids, I’ve got three dogs and I’ve got a whole load more lines to learn for the next day. My family snaps me out of it.

“Checking my breasts is so much easier now,” says Lucy. “Before I couldn’t check what was behind the implants, now I have my tiny little French tits, as I call them, it’s so much easier. Recently, I went with a friend to have their breasts checked and actually learnt how to do it properly.” Lucy had her first boob job aged 21, and her second at 32. She loved the aesthetic and even nicknamed her breasts The Mitchell Brothers, after EastEnders’ bald thugs Grant and Phil.

“I used to call them the Mitchell Brothers and me and the Mitchell Brothers had so much fun! They were what I wanted and they were how I wanted my body to look for a long time. If I’d have known then what I know now about breast implant illness, I think I’d have probably still had them because I was so adamant. Now I’m glad that I had them removed and didn’t just keep going, ‘Oh my boobs are everything, I’m going to keep my boobs.

This love letter to her employer doesn’t mean Lucy has no other ambitions. In fact, she’s dreaming of being signed up for The Masked Singer. Lucy has previously appeared on Soapstar Superstar, Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes and supported Boyzone in the 90s with her girlband Paperdolls. “I’d absolutely love to go on The Masked Singer,” says Lucy.
