The story will see Laurel and Jai decide to terminate the pregnancy of their unborn baby that has Down’s Syndrome

After a social media call to action, 265 complaints were registered with Ofcom over scenes in which Laurel asked about an abortion in November 30’s episode.Since then, Ofcom has confirmed that a further 182 complaints have been lodged.

Tonight, scenes will show Rhona Goskirk react with horror when Laurel broaches the topic with her and a five character episode will air tomorrow night showing Laurel and Jai reach their final decision – while Rhona and Marlon reflect on how happy their lives are because of Leo.Show producer Laura Shaw told Metro.co.uk: ‘We’re confident that what we’ve produced has been done in a really balanced and sensitive way.

‘We’ve got the research, this is based on real life, and I think people will see that. You’re going to feel uncomfortable at times watching it, but I hope that people will then, as they watch it, understand why we’ve done it.’Jane Fisher told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think it’s really important that people can speak about this, not that they must, because for many people this is a very painful and private experience. And that’s fine, they may not want to talk about it openly.

‘There are going to be people, however well this is portrayed, who are always going to have strong views. But I think the majority of people watching the episodes as written will have an insight into the reality, the complexity.’– we’d love to hear from you.
