Emmerdale returns to filming but with major change to storylines
EMMERDALE was forced to halt filming back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic as new social distancing guidelines were introduced but today, the soap announced on This Morning it had resumed filming with special measures for the ITV soap.
During today’s instalment of the weekday magazine show, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield announced they had an exclusive update from Emmerdale.Holly excitedly told viewers: “Eight weeks after they paused production, the soap has resumed filming for six new episodes for viewers to enjoy in June.”
They were joined by Sharon, who is the show’s resident soap expert and also works as a scriptwriter for Emmerdale.She confirmed the news, adding: “I think I should give the honour of this to the boss!” before a clip was played from the ITV soap’s boss, Jane Hudson.

We’re back on set today, back in Emmerdale.
“We’re on set with Cain [Dingle (played by Jeff Hordley)] and Aaron [Dingle (Danny Miller)], working through our scenes whilst social distancing.”She continued: “It’s not easy but we’re getting used to it, we can’t wait to be back and make some new episodes for you!”

(Image: ITV)John Whiston, Managing Director of Continuing Drama for ITV Studios and Head of ITV in the North has been overseeing the soaps plans to return to filming.Speaking of Emmerdale’s return to filming, he said: “It's brilliant that Jane and the team at Emmerdale have risen to the challenge of getting these episodes shot using the new protocols for filming drama while observing the Government's social distancing guidelines.
“Also, it will be great to see what the likes of Chas and Paddy and Jimmy and Nicola have got up to while they've been going through lockdown the same as the rest of us!”The episodes, which will depict the characters in lockdown, are being recorded over a two-week period and feature six pairs of characters from the show.
Viewers were shown footage of Jeff and Danny recording their scenes as their alter-egos and Sharon announced the other characters who would be appearing.Recently wedded couple, Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and Lydia Hart (Karen Blick) will feature as well as Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and his wife Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
Another Dingle two-hander will take place in the form of Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and her adoptive son Vinny (Bradley Johnson), whose estranged dad Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) has recently returned into his life. Read more: Daily Express »
