Commuters say Elizabeth line service 'not what was promised'

All of the huge modernist stations are now open and it is architecturally impressive, but what has service on the Elizabeth line been like since it opened in the summer?

"It's not reliable, it's too full, too busy and too stressful. What are the options? Get the bus, drive instead?"One of the main problems they all mention is the volume of Heathrow passengers who use the service.

You don’t see the irony of your own posting. The trains were designed to hold more standing than sitting. That was the whole point, mostly for relatively short sections of journey. There is meant to be a high churn of passengers within the central core.

The current interval between trains in the 6000+ population village I grew up in is 54 years and counting.

As a New Yorker, they don’t know how good they have it with the Elizabeth line. It was absolutely lovely when I used it throughout November.

Atrocious service at Acton Main Line Station. All those trains that 'terminate at Paddington' -WHY? Trains skipping Acton -WHY? No service on Sundays -WHY? DELAY AFTER DELAY completely unreliable. People West of Paddington agree. Not was what was promised AT ALL ElizabethLine

I've never had any issues, and I use it relatively frequently. If you people hate the wait outside Paddington then know that it's timetabled in and it will stop when the full timetable arrives in May.

''Oh no our trains are too busy thats not what we wanted or told we would get'' Oh ok so why didn't you let them FUND THE NORTH? entitled plebs

Used it for the first time last weekend. Absolutely superb. Big wide open tunnels and platforms, brand new clean trains. Meanwhile I have to get something resembling a bus on tracks, that's absolutely rammed, to Manchester day to day.

Huge fan! Mix and match with the GWR fast trains to Paddington and it’s a great addition to commuting

Typical BBC negativity

Trains are generally over crowded during peak times. Not sure why the Elizabeth line complaint

Whoa whoa whoa, it's not even on fire and you're mad about it? Boston will gladly take the whole system off your hands. People are getting killed over here.

Most of them are complaining about reliability which it says in the article is 93% anyone in the north could only dream of that kind of reliability and busy trains is the norm up here to

Bullshit. I use it all the time and it has never once been anything but great. Quick, reliable travel from the previously wildly underserved south east of London.

I use it almost everyday to commute into town and back and it’s excellent. Yeah there’s some delays now and then, but that’s par for the course in London.

Does the WiFi work yet?

Its great Cross Rail 1 has been successful. Can we also provided similar benefits to the Midlands and Northern England as well? NorthernPowerhouseRail HS2b

A broken down train on Monday meant no trains for hours. It was a bit ridiculous my usual 30 minute journey took 2 hours

Rest of the UK - 'who gives a sh*t?'

Working in London for 6 months….it’s bloody amazing! Dry your eyes lads!

We should Pacer trains on there for a laugh

Londoners whining?

I use it for commuting and leisure and am very impressed with it ~ Matt

As far as I am aware it is what is promised. What were they expecting? Gold plated grab poles or something

I use it weekly and apart from a couple of cancellations, it’s been fine. I only wish the stations had wifi.

Boohoo for them. Try using public transport anywhere else in the UK and see how grateful you'll be.

Elizabeth line is great, I don't need to use it that often, but I always use it whenever I can and it is fantastic.

And this is why Londoners wouldn’t survive in the north

It’s freezing turn that air con off

Finding four people who hate their diamond shoes....

Reliability at 93% must be really bad. Quite laughable 😃

It’s the worst line

As someone in the North... Welcome to our daily reality for the last decade.

Spoilt children

Elizabeth Line is a game-changer if you have a train connection in London at two different national rail stations.

Not what was promised. Unfinished. Increased prices. Staff shortages. Got to be renamed the Brexit Line.

Try going from Cardiff to Aberystwyth. 60 miles apart but takes 5 hours to travel

try living outside the M25.

What a load of bollocks. It’s great

Well then rename it “ Charlies Line “ …

I use regularly to get to LHR T5 for work, it’s great. But it’s not THAT much quicker than the Picadilly line… not for the price anyway. But it’s definitely more comfortable.

London and its first world problems. Why is this even on BBC News?

Seriously, who decided on this plan? The main problem is there are too many stops outside central London. It should have only stopped at Sheffield, Romford Stratford Ealing Broadway Slough Reading. On its own track, so it could be high speed. The southern section is better.

The last people who were this disappointed by what was promised by Elizabeth were the populations of every commonwealth country

Like everything in the UK, it's 40 years too late and was always going to be inadequate in the first place. PatheticUK ShitholeUK

Aww bless. Cry to the rest on the country who are having services cancelled everywhere and communities becoming isolated. London bubble.

Now *there's* a surprise

Who's saying this? Everyone I know still can't stop talking about how much they love it. Every morning we rise and praise the Elizabeth Line.

93% of trains arriving on time? We’d love that anywhere north of London please

I use it regularly. Seems fine, I'm not sure what they're complaining about.

Although it seems worst on the western side anybody who has commuted form the Shenfield side could have predicted this was going to be the case.

Meanwhile on the isle of wight there's a former tube train from before WW2

I guess it depends where you are. It’s changed my life in London and constantly sing it’s praises lol

Really, I've loved it.

Who are these commuters? 😂

My heart bleeds for those poor Londoners

L + ratio + Ealing is a dump

Make them use Transpennine for a month and then see them moan.

It’s great - bed to office in an hour 👍

I like it

Meanwhile in the real world , no one in the rest of the country gives shit.

jasonrus

I think it's a pretty good service for England. Of course in Switzerland it wouldn't but certainly better than existing trains/tube in Greater London area.

Londoners cry the new line isn't to their liking, meanwhile else where in the country we are lucky if a train runs

The Elizabeth line is great, BBC News is shit.

For comparison a current screenshot of an east west service in yhe north

Could always walk....just dont forget your stab jackets as you walk out your homes

😬

The walking distance between the EL and other lines in what is allegedly the same station is horrific. Piccadilly Line to EL at Heathrow is a prime example; easily a quarter mile walk.

When everything goes to plan, it is great. When it misses, it really misses. For me personally, it's been more hit than miss though I don't use it often. It will take time to settle in, esp given the final phase has yet to complete.

I think the Yoga teacher is just making excuses for not wanting to leave her cats

Just like it’s namesake Queen that did fuckall for the nation except put dogs and equines about her stupid subjects.

License fee payers say BBC is not what is promised. Still around BBC Scum

What a load of bollocks. I use it almost everyday and it's chopped at least 15 minutes from my journey time.

ElizabethLine is the most reliable and busiest route in the country, 2 months after opening, which makes the neg slant on the article bizarre imo. Not to say that improvements can't be made - increased frequency and t-table refinements will come. FD I am completely biased. 😜

Never had a problem with the Elizabeth Line.

What 😐😐😐

The annoying thing is so many train terminate at Padd, if all the trains went to Heathrow or Reading it'd be fine. With the trains already busy at rush hr, I've no idea how they are going to cope with the extra numbers all the housing development along the line is going to bring!

People are complaining because it’s only slightly better than the older tube lines? 🤦‍♂️ Give them a year and I’m sure they would have ironed out the kinks.

It's actually a very decent line, connects central London to the suburbs pretty quickly, spacious, frequent service and has WiFi and Aircon

This is your evidence of a problem with busy carriages 🤣

Seems like a lot of network rail issue.

Tell them to get the train between Leeds and Manchester on any day anytime and conplain then

Superb.. that kind of money spent on transpennine services would make a real difference. Imagine Manchester -Leeds in under an hour?

I use the Lizzy line whenever I travel to Soho and love it! No complaints from me!

It’s very Mauve. Took me 8 hours to find it; I was looking for Purple as described.

Have you seen the state of trains up North?! They should be glad they’re able to get one!

Was in London in December and didn’t see it mentioned anywhere even in the underground

Come up north and then complain. It takes nearly 3 hours to get from Manchester to Sheffield, a 45 mile journey

What a surprise !

It sounds like people's expectations were set unnecessarily stupidly high

Widdums....one of your umpteen lines isn't quite perfect! Our local station was recently closed down meaning a 20 minute bus ride to a mainline station to get the '1 train per hour' to the major cities 15m east/west of here, and that was the service before covid/strikes!

Is anything?

Literally nothing wrong with it. Seats available, trains are clean, on time the vast vast majority of the time. People using it also means I can get a seat on the central line more often. Dunno what people expected from a train service - did they expect to fly to the Moon?

That would be depending on personal experience. I've been very impressed by it.

I think it’s great

Lol. Moaning aboout having to wait 3, maybe even 6 minutes for the next one. They want to try getting around the North on public transport & look at the cancellations & overcrowding here.

i actually really like the lizzy line, much better than the other tubes. it’s much quieter, cleaner, and i like the barriers

You spent billions and ran overtime and still no internet

Surpriiiseee

That's the problem with perception vs reality, which is then amplified with selective vox-pop to make a grabby headline and a story that doesn't really say anything useful.

Try using Transpennine-Express, then you would have something to complain about.

Boo fucking hoo. Try using the Tyne and Wear Metro 🤣 then you might have something to whinge about.

There are some teething problems, but overall it is great.

The British elite is not good for Scotland, nor for Wales and Northern Ireland. And worst of all, they don't even care about the fate of their own people. Hope can only be the European family🇪🇺

It’s a superb line. More reliable than South Eastern and cheaper as well.

Never heard one complaint. And never had to wait longer than a couple minutes for a train.

Switched to the Elizabeth line to commute to work. Far more reliable than Se_Railway service

Conservatives slogan. “Not what we promised” notwhatwepromised

I think it’s terrific.

love lizzie line

Britain, you can't polish a turd.

Such a service, outside London, would be praised.

This is England. Why are you surprised promises were not kept?

Thought it was class to get to Canary Wharf

'I WANT THE LINE TO TAKE ME FROM MY HOUSE DIRECTLY TO MY OFFICE!!!' Whinging tosspots. ('What do they want for their lousy ten cents - to live forever?')
