A British-Israeli soldier with family connections to Manchester was killed by Hamas during the terror group's initial attack on Israel, according to reports today. Yosef Guedalia, 22, was serving in the Israeli military when he was shot dead on October 7.
READ MORE: Man abducted victim and raped him in the street before holding gun to his head in horror attackYosef, who lived in Jerusalem, is understood to have gone in and out of the kibbutz four times but on the last occasion, his armoured car was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. It's understood he died when other grenades were then thrown.
"He literally saved people minutes before he got shot," Asher said. "He acted with heroism and determination, he continued to fight and didn’t think of himself or hesitate… He went in to rescue as many citizens as possible before they got murdered in their homes and to kill as many terrorists as he could."
The Prime Minister and the US president, along with the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Canada, called for Israel to respect international humanitarian law, demanded the release of the hostages held by Hamas and pushed for aid for Gaza. Israel has traded fire with Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group on a near-daily basis since the war began and the US is also wary of Iran’s proxies being used to spread violence throughout the region.
The first aid convoys reached Gaza through the border with Egypt over the weekend, 20 trucks on Saturday and 14 on Sunday.
