The boyfriend of a 22-year-old killed by a fatal stab wound in a city centre flat told police she was 'pierced' accidentally by 'something in her belongings' as he threw her bags at her during an argument, a murder trial has heard.
Opening the trial at Liverpool Crown Court today, prosecutor Mr Richard Pratt KC told jurors Elinor's death was 'no accident'. He said she was 'stabbed in the groin' by Mannion in what he called a 'rageful and violent attack'. Prosecutors allege that Elinor suffered 'injury after injury' at the hands of Mannion during their eight-month relationship - including a separate stab wound to her left breast just two days before the incident which led to her death.
The court heard how Mannion, of Watson Street, allegedly stabbed Elinor before calling 999 and telling the operator his girlfriend was seriously injured and bleeding heavily from a wound to her groin area. He added that she was 'pierced in the groin' by something in her possessions, which he had thrown at her and told her to leave the flat, prosecutors allege.
The prosecution also alleged that Elinor had sought help from medical professionals and police on several occasions during the course of their relationship, telling them she had been 'beaten up' by a fictitious ex-boyfriend 'Paul Traynor', who he said the police could find no trace of.
