The potential hazards caused by electric cars on British roads are being urgently reviewed by the Government over concerns that the vehicles stop suddenly when they break down and that many cannot be towed.

Baroness Vere, a transport minister, said she was "astonished" to discover that electric vehicles tend to "stop very suddenly" when they cease to function, rather than coasting like conventional cars, and that they can take longer to be removed from motorways.

What a load of made up tosh! There is no risk of stopping dead - electric cars give you far more warning than petrol cars if they're running low, and even then they all have a backup reserve after the display shows '0'. This is clear biased nonsense.

editgirl1 We have lots of electric cars and in the 4 years some have been on fleet not one has broken down. Running out of charge is a completely different thing. In the next 2-4 years battery life will increase significantly

And that conventional cars and gasoline is completely safe...
