Eldorado might have launched Kai Maurer's career, but the actor looks completely different now from his early days on the doomed soap where he played a German heartthrob

Eldorado might have gone down in TV history as one of soap's biggest flops, but it did launch the careers of some of its cast - including Kai Maurer, who played hot German windsurfing instructor Dieter Schultz.

Cast members included Jesse Birdsall as Marcus Tandy and Sandra Sandri as Pilar Montero, but viewers who tuned in to the short-lived soap might remember Kai as another of the cast having fun in the sun. While he didn't get a lengthy stay in the Spanish soap, he did use it as a springboard to an exciting career.

Dieter was the much younger on-off lover of Trish Valentine, played by Polly Perkins, and when he wasn't romancing the veteran cabaret singer he spent his days on the beach giving windsurfing lessons. Instead, the German star used the opportunity to take on some serious acting training at Lamda and even appeared in a West End production of It Won't All Be Funny at the Garrick Theatre.

Graeme Souness believes Kai Havertz deserved a blue card for divingGraeme Souness argues that Kai Havertz's dive during Arsenal's match against Brentford should have resulted in a blue card, which would mean a spell in a sin bin as punishment. Havertz's dive went to VAR, but no second yellow card was given. Souness believes that diving and pretending to be injured are the most annoying aspects of football and introducing a sin bin could eradicate them.
