In a bid to stop the NHS from becoming overwhelmed

The triage tool is understood to have been used as a reference point for healthcare professionals, taking into account age, fragility and pre-existing health conditions.

He said: ‘The assertions are simply not borne out by the facts: it was older patients who disproportionately received NHS care – over two-thirds of our Covid-19 inpatients were aged over 65. Chairman of the British Medical Association, Dr Chaand Nagpaul, told the Sunday Times ‘large numbers of patients’ did not receive critical care they needed and this was due to the health service ‘not having the resources’ to do so.
