Nottinghamshire is home to some wonderful places, from quaint villages and historic market towns, to the bustling city suburbs and forgotten hamlets. However, depending on where you go and who you speak to across the county, there are some places with names people cannot agree on.
Southwell Famous for its stunning Minister which is almost 1,000 years old, Southwell is a beloved town in the county close to Newark-on-Trent. However, depending on who you ask, some call it South-well whereas others say Suth-ell. It is understood that residents in the town opt for the first choice, whereas visitors and people from other areas name it Suth-ell.
Rainworth Another cause for debate is the lovely village of Rainworth near Mansfield. Some people opt for the 'w' whereas others do not, so it is either Renn-uth or Rain-worth. Although most people seem to lean towards the Renn-uth pronunciation.
