Eco activists have warned “business as usual” must end as Scotland’s biggest climate camp in a decade gears up for a massive “day of resistance” at Grangemouth.
They appeared to include cops from the Met in London, suggesting Police Scotland has drafted in help from outside forces to head off disruption. A police source said: "There will be a substantial presence in and around the area because of its strategic importance due to the fuel lines that supply much of the country."
One of the kayakers, Dr Mairi Spanswick, said: "If we don’t change business as usual, we will need three Planet Earths to sustain our lives by 2050 - and we’re living on a dying planet. Climate camper Jim Walker, 29, said: “We’re not going to cause any disruption to the local community - we really want to minimise that.
“And if you see the impact on countries like Vietnam - how weather events that were once in a generation, once in 100 years, happen every year, massive floods now, massive droughts - you see people suffering under the impacts of a massively escalating climate crisis already.”
