Kilby host the Blues in the first leg of the pyramid play-off final this weekend

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy reckons his side will need to take a lead to Stranraer if they are to seize their shot at promotion glory in the pyramid play-off final.

The sides have met just twice before with Stranraer running out 2-1 winners in the Scottish Cup third round in 2016 and 1-0 victors in the League Cup group stages in 2021, both at Stair Park. And Kennedy is not underestimating the task at hand, feeling his side must take a good advantage with them to Stair Park next weekend if they are to finally realise their dream of reaching the SPFL.

“Stranraer have a massive history of over 150 years so the last thing they want is to end up in the Lowland League, but our aspirations are to get the club into League Two and we need to seize that chance. And Kennedy’s men warmed up for Saturday with a 5-2 friendly defeat to Rangers B last Thursday, where John Robertson and David Ferguson netted.

“I know Scott Agnew really well, he is a good mate, and I’ve seen enough of Stranraer over the last few weeks to know they will be well prepared and come in with a lot of confidence themselves. It is no foregone conclusion and it will be very difficult.
