Dyson will not supply medical ventilators to help the NHS treat Covid-19 patients after the government told the engineering firm that its services were no longer required.
why not ?
Dyson should take you to court for slander with such a ludicrous FakeNews headline. Disgraceful journalism
Not surprised. What I don’t get it why the gov does not support those companies have already experience in building these machines. Is it because they were not Brexiters?
Scaling up the production of already certified products was a better decision
why UK has to do everything in a twisted way? Why not just buying regular ventilators? Because they are not posh?
Read the article first before commenting bc its title can be easily misinterpreted. 'Dyson asked NOT to supply ventilators to the NHS' is more accurate. BTW, 2 other potential providers of new ventilators were also told their products are not needed.
'none of the companies has so far received regulatory approval for new devices.' Either the govt cant cut the red tape even in a crisis. Or british engineering isnt so great. Post brexit reality will lay it all to bare.
😯😮🙄🤨
Some good pr for the tory benefactor..
That sucks
As a guardian reader (and someone who thinks pretty lowly of Dyson) this headline is embarrassing. I expect you not to rely on misleading headlines
I read the guardian regularly and this headline completely misrepresents the case. It implies it is dyson’s doing when actually it’s because they aren’t needed. I like to think you’re better than this so please be so.
What a misleading strapline. Fake news personified.
Good
Well there is a surprise!
I've been tinkering with my hoover and I've turned it into a ventilator that can totally breathe for unconscious people for weeks if need be. Not tested but needs must. Better than dying! Sort of. You can clap for me if you like.
So NOW the Govt is focussing on getting firms who already make approved ventilators to “scale up production”. Surely that was the obvious solution from Day 1. Enabling existing manufacturers to do it faster, producing more, was the answer all along. Who knew?
Quite an achievement to become a billionaire hawking products that both suck and blow in equal measure. And they’re all so bloody LOUD ! The hairdryer sounds like a f*cking hovercraft.
How much were Dyson paid?
He got great publicity from it though. Shame the government doesn't put an advert out showing him & all the other British businessman who closed their British factories & sacked all their workers to open cheap factories in China to them make billions selling cheap crap!
It sounds like the government told them they would buy 10,000 units and then after Dyson invested 20 million dollars they pulled their bid. There is also a big price difference between what is open sourced $4000 vs a traditional ventilator $35000.
quel suprise
I expect some of it may have to do with the fact that VentMI has been developed for pennies on the dollar to use one ventilator to help multiple people at the same time. I expect at some point another model will be out to help more than just two people at the same time.
They can't blow as well as they suck! dyson
PR stunt goes down the pan. Another Brexiteer breaks a promise.
We'll remember that, and we'll remember that Dyson didn't invent laminar airflow when we award future govt contracts.
Mainly because Dyson sucks
This headline is a bit misleading, isn’t it!!!
My decision to NOT BUY DYSON keeps getting affirmed. Buy Shark vacuum cleaners instead.
Phew!
Why? Is it fake news from the Guardian?
😂😂😂
Remember that it was the *second* wave of the Spanish flu epidemic that killed the most people.
Assuming they work shouldn't the govt buy the 10,000 ventilators anyway both as spare capacity against a 2nd wave and also to replace use of anaesthetic ventilators which don't work as well/are less effective than ICU ventilators?
Why?
We don't need them. We have Lysol injections now. But, thanks anyway.
£10M he will not be donating to the Tories in the future. Good stuff!
Obviously
Why
