Sean Dyche said he had little doubt Dominic Calvert-Lewin would overcome any nerves to score from the penalty spot against Newcastle United.
Some of that pressure may have been diffused by James Tarkowski, who guarded the ball while referee Tony Harrington assessed his monitor before ruling Paul Dummett had hauled down Ashley Young. But the pressure would still have been intense before Calvert-Lewin dispatched another spot kick at a crucial point in an Everton season.
Speaking after the game, Dyche made reference to Everton’s longstanding complaints of a season in which they can legitimately feel frustrated over key decisions that have not gone their way. They include another baffling call to wave away what looked like a foul in the box on Calvert-Lewin in the defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.
