Like many others, I turned to alcohol out of stress and boredom. I had to draw a line, says writer Lauren O’Neill

“Well,” I said to my flatmate one night last March, as I poured red wine into my glass, the liquid glugging throatily. “I suppose we will just have to drink through it.”

Not for me. Moved in with my pops in '19 to take care of him until his death last Nov and have had my grandkid with me since then, so drinking is out of the question. On the rare occasions I had a break and had a couple drinks, I found I can no longer handle even that amount.

She drank half a bottle of wine after 6pm? And this is supposed to resonate with people who genuinely need to curtail their drinking? That's like moaning to someone with brain cancer about your completely benign migraines.

MASK stays ON while drinking!!! No exceptions!!! Get the MASK on NOW!!! Over the nose, under the chin!!!! 2 or 3 MASKS on is okay but 4 MASKS is good!!!!

I started drinking more during lockdown. But got bored with drinking so since a couple of months I allow myself only alcohol on Saturday. One bottle of 🍷 and that’s it for the whole week.

Benno_36 didn't know Lauren wrote for VICE! :)

I think you mean the “last 4 years.”

Might be in the minority but I stopped drinking altogether since lockdown, which is very nice on the old current account. Try it. If you can’t or keep using lockdown as a reason to drink, lockdown isn’t the problem.

I think you mean start the day.

'During lockdown'

Not for me it hasn’t....quite the opposite. It’s really clarified that having a drink with friends is fun and hospitable. Just having a drink at home is quite frankly, just a bit pants.

Made a conscious decision not to drink any alcohol during lockdown

Maybe for the public sector it has

Hasn't it just!

Not if you're working it hasn't

horrible
