An official drought is set to be declared for some regions in England today.

An official drought is set to be declared for some regions in England today, with temperatures of 35C°C making the country hotter than parts of the Caribbean.

Jamie Hannaford, a hydrologist at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, which advises the Government, told: ‘The autumn-winter period as a whole will be critical to dictating what the water resources position will be as we go into 2023.’ Severity is measured by its impact on human activities, such as agriculture and leisure, and by its effect on large-scale natural events such as wildfires.

Blazes broke out in several areas, including London, Essex, Gloucestershire, Surrey and Cheshire, on Thursday when temperatures broke into the low 30s.supports HTML5 video
