Getting behind the wheel in the winter can pose challenges for even the most competent of drivers. Icy road surfaces, poor visibility and the darker mornings and evenings can make life on the road very tricky.
The experts at CarMats.co.uk have shared their rules all drivers should know for driving in winter - and in the dark - that people may not know could be expensive mistakes. However, there is one particular mistake people may not know that could see you forking out a £1,000 fine for. "Failing to properly clean your headlights could mean they're not as bright, significantly impacting your ability to see at night, as well as being seen by other drivers. Rule 229 of the Highway Code states that 'you MUST ensure that lights are clean', and motorists caught breaking this, with lights that are obscured could land an on-the-spot fine of anywhere between £30-£100. This could soar to around £1,000 if the case goes to court," the experts said.
