Last week, amid widespread protests over police brutality against black people, the league issued an apology for not listening to its players’ concerns over racism in the United States. In the statement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league would now “encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest”.
I see kneeling for the national anthem, especially at this time, as a prayer for this country to finally do right. And truly be great. No disrespect. Just an honest prayer for the right path forward.

LotharBirkner Trump had no hand in that tweet. It's inconceivable that the words 'rather interesting statement of peace and reconciliation' ever came from him. Come on, people, you know him better than that. Far too understanding, far too many syllables, far too grammatically complex.

NFL should acknowledge and proclaim that kneeling is not done to dishonor the flag but to honor what the flag stands for. Kneeling has always been a recognition of higher authority.
NFL should acknowledge and proclaim that when one kneels in protest during recognition of the flag, it’s not the flag they protest, but the fact that the ideals it stands for have been betrayed. Beyond that, peaceful protest is a Constitutional right.
When you hear ‘God Save the Queen’, you don’t see those curry guys with bad English removing their diapers from their heads and kneeling! They stand up straight and either sing, or remain in silent respect.
This is not our problem here in the UK. We have plenty of our own: Brexit and COVID-19 and a Tory government and ....
