The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, which Ms Truss served as from 2017 to 2019, is the second most senior Treasury minister after the Chancellor. They are responsible for public expenditure and spending reviews.
Ms Truss has positioned herself as the tax-cutting alternative to Rishi Sunak, declaring that it is time to “get back to Conservative values” after the former Chancellor raised taxes to a post-war high. The Justice Secretary defended his choice to back Mr Sunak in the race to become Prime Minister, saying the former Chancellor had the “right values” to replace Boris Johnson.
Mr Raab revealed on Sunday that “as a courtesy” he informed Mr Johnson he would be backing Mr Sunak before publicly announcing his position.
How could something be done on day one, if it has to go through parliament first? Or has Liz found some super wheeze enabling her to bypass parliament?
They are all now stabbing each other in the back. After the result, guaranteed they will all be fawning over that person to give them a cabinet/ministerial job.
