'Do not eat' warning after Salmonella found in Sainsbury's almonds

Sainsbury's is recalling bags of flaked almonds after Salmonella was found in the product. The Food Standards Agency issued the "important safety warning", advising consumers that the bacteria can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

The recall notice applies to 200g bags of the By Sainsbury's item. Shoppers are being told to return any already purchased to their local store. The warning said: "As a precautionary measure Sainsbury's are recalling By Sainsbury's Flaked Almonds 200g as they may contain Salmonella, that may cause illness if consumed. If you have bought one of the affected batches of this product, we advise you not to consume it. For a full refund please return the product to your local Sainsbury's store."

It added: "No other products are affected. Sainsbury's would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."Lot codes 4044/4045The FSA said in its alert: "Salmonella has been found in the product listed above. Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. If you have bought the product do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
