Reality Check: How do you dispose of medical waste?An investigation is being launched into a backlog of medical waste, including body parts. This gies back 20y when the Environment agency closed down most of the country's incinerators and converted parts of the couuntry like Seal Sands, Teesside into waste dumps. The hospitals I worked had their own incinerators. However the heat from one was used to generate steam for the central sterilisation services department. My insulin pen needles and Lancet, along with small cotton buds, go into a large pop bottle then when full, goes into General rubbish bag to go council incinerator.
