Scientists have discovered an ancient human skull that’s the oldest ever found outside Africa.

It was found alongside a Neanderthal skull, which is a separate species which existed alongside our ancestors but mysteriously died out. ‘Our results suggest that at least two groups of people lived in the Middle Pleistocene in what is now southern Greece: an early population of Homo sapiens and, later, a group of Neanderthals,’ Harvat added. This supports the theory that early modern humans spread out of Africa but indicates this exodus took place earlier than expected.‘The Apidima 1 skull shows an early dispersal happened earlier than we thought, and also reached further geographically, into Europe itself.
