A 'kind and caring' young woman, who died after being found unconscious on a psychiatric ward almost 300 miles away from her, family told a healthcare worker three months before her death how much she wanted to return closer to home, an inquest has heard.
The inquest has been told Lauren, who had a diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder , as well as Autism, had been transferred to a psychiatric intensive care unit at the privately-run Stockport hospital in July 2021, despite strong objections from her family. She said during her first visit, on September 19, Lauren had expressed concerns about the 'physical environment.'
In it she raised the 'ongoing stresses of the environment' on the ward including the fact that she said she 'experienced fear of other patients on a daily basis' as well as 'the ongoing stress of being so far away from home' which she said was Lauren's 'main concern.' Jurors were told by September 2021 it has deemed Lauren was ready to be 'stepped down' from the PICU to another type of ward preferably closer to home, but that at the time of her death, five months later, she was still on the Pankhurst ward at the Cheadle Priory.
