An American pilot who was found to be almost two and half times over the alcohol limit before he was due to fly has been jailed for 10 months.
The court heard how Russell, from the state of Georgia, was rostered to fly the Boeing 767 plane from Edinburgh to New York’s JFK Airport early on Friday, June 16, 2023. This exceeded the strict legal aviation limit, which is just 20mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. In comparison, the legal alcohol limit for driving a vehicle in Scotland is 50mg in 100ml of blood.
