Death of teenage boy in Glasgow sparks outrage from youth violence campaigners

Youth violence campaigners have slammed the Scottish Government after the tragic death of a teenage boy in Glasgow .

As part of the campaign, we have repeatedly called on the Scottish Government to invest in safe spaces for kids to allow them to be guided and mentored in every community. Those impacted by youth violence have previously warned that a child would die as a result and are now demanding urgent intervention.

"I feel for the boy's parents. They'll never watch him grow up, go to university, or start a family of his own. I can't imagine how it would feel to lose a child over something that could have been prevented.Angela Jarvis, whose daughter, Abbie, was beaten unconscious at a skatepark in Glasgow's Drumchapel just weeks before Kaylynn's attack, said the Scottish Government must prioritise funding for youth facilities with immediate effect.

Angela and Vicky's calls were backed by Scotland's former Justice Secretary MP Kenny MacAskill, who accused the Government of "sleep-walking" into the problem. Labour MSP Monica Lennon said youths of today are being failed by the Scottish Government's "inaction". “This has been a shock for our school community, and we are continuing to offer support to young people, staff and those in the wider community that are affected.”
