It’s time to accept artists know more about art than politicians. Without a proper plan, the industry will be decimated

You presumably heard Boris Johnson, when asked at prime minister’s questions this week about the future of theatre, declare that “the show must go on”. I wonder what your reaction was. Did you let out a silent cheer? Or did you, like the rest of us, groan at Johnson’s hollow bombast at a time when not only theatre but the whole performing arts sector faces decimation by December?

TL:DR no he hasn't

iamclintmansell He hasn't even grasped the fact he's been overpromoted. Or the fact he looks like the Martin character in the sitcom Game on. Ginger tosser. For those about to get angry thats how he was referred to

iamclintmansell And it’s not just theatre, it’s across the entirety of the performing arts. In every town and city of the UK, small venues especially have closed down for good or are on the edge. Artists, crews, staff, all are under threat because this government doesn’t give a shit.

With proper plan just meaning people handing out more money they may have to accept the situation as it is and rebuild once it is over.

No He's a Tory .

If there is a satisfactory answer to the loss of theater goers due to the virus I don't know what it could be. The only solution I think is money from the government and allow people back in without distancing. I fear the industry will collapse and that will be it.

Narrator: he really hasn't

He’s an empty suit of a politician who likes the privilege attached but doesn’t want the work. That or he has no idea what he is doing

errr no he hasnt

Nuffield Southampton Theatres to permanently close as UK arts crisis deepensAcclaimed cultural institution, once named ‘regional theatre of the year’, announces closure with 86 roles made redundant I'm really sorry to hear this news and I fear it won't be the last to close. The government is doing nothing to help get through the pandemic, and the no deal brexit they are actively pursuing is going to compound the damage caused, nasty alt.right little shits they are. Heartbreaking. And appalling. Well this is bloody depressing. I've seen some absolutely amazing productions there, and it's a crime that the arts are being served this way by a govt that clearly couldn't give a shit
