City centre commuters will get a boost next week when a Metrolink stop returns to full service - but only after a day of major disruption. Exchange Square's tram stop has been out of action for passengers travelling from Oldham and Rochdale since January 20.
It followed the discovery of a cracked rail between Exchange Square and Victoria station, leading to major engineering works. Passengers had been warned for months that services between the two stops had been halted 'until further notice', but a date has now been confirmed by Transport for Greater Manchester for the return to full service at Exchange Square.Normal service will finally be resumed at Exchange Square next Tuesday, May 7.
The Bury, Rochdale, East Didsbury and Airport lines will all be affected. Some services will terminate in north Manchester, with trams running between Bury and Queens Road, and Rochdale and Monsall.
