According to The Hollywood Reporter, an announcement was made by the late actor’s family online in an obituary. It was said that Hickman – who starred in the movie Leave Her To Heaven in 1945, as well as several episodes of the 1990s TV series The Nanny – died on Wednesday in Montecito, California. Born in Hollywood in 1931, Hickman’s first film role came in 1937 in The Prisoner of Zenda, after he signed a contract with Paramount.
A couple of years later, he bagged his role as Winfield Joad in The Grapes of Wrath, which was based on the novel of the same name and was nominated for seven Oscars, winning two for Best Director and Best Supporting Actress. The film is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, and also stars Henry Fonda and Jane Darwell among the cast.
