A selfish father has been jailed for 10 years for causing the death of his son who he led across the M62 after a drunken crash.
Rycroft, of Leeds, crashed the car at Hartshead Moor Services. He then led Callum across the M62 to the central reservation. As they tried to cross back, Callum was hit by a car and died at the scene. His dad didn't look back to check on him and was found hiding in a bush beside the motorway. Rycroft didn't ask about the whereabouts of his son until some time later.
He previously admitted the manslaughter of Callum, as well as offences of dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. The court was told how on Saturday, 5 August, Matthew Rycroft had been drinking alcohol throughout the day in Huddersfield before leaving in his Audi Q5 with Callum to return home to Leeds. A frightened Callum phoned his mum and dialled 999 but his dad told him to finish the call and swore at his terrified son.
