TfL to begin issuing fines to drivers in cycle lanes

The government has provided new powers to local authorities which allows them to fine motorists who infringe on cycle lanes and cycle tracks, in the same way that they currently do with bus lanes and yellow box junctions.goal, which aims to eliminate death and serious injury on London's roads.

Siwan Hayward, TfL's director of compliance, policing, operations and security, said: "Protecting designated space for cyclists is essential in keeping them safe and improving confidence to cycle. "We want to ensure a green and sustainable future for London, and to do this we must continue to make walking and cycling round our city safe and accessible to all Londoners."

any chance of the coppers issuing fines for the droves of 'cyclists' on the pavement

I wonder... does that include the moped delivery riders who do that along Wandsworth bridge rd? And no doubt many other roads where there's a bit of traffic.

How about issuing fines to cyclists not using their designated lanes. I was held up behind a cyclist using a narrow road instead of the cycle track adjacent. The cyclist caused a traffic jam. It's not always the motorists fault.

You just know it will be abused. Every slight violation will be fined and people will just get tired of driving because it would just be too expensive. Fingers crossed I'm just being too negative.🤞

What about cycles riding on pavements and hitting pedestrians

The Mayor is mad

Will they start issuing fines to cyclists with no lights, going through red lights etc?

Yep, start fining bloody cyclists on pavements.

About time

Fairs fair: should also issue fines to cyclists not using such lanes where they are available! They've cost a fortune to install so it seems reasonable!

Will cyclists who leave the cycle lane be fined

About time

Look at all these comments against cyclists. Car drivers are very impatient people.

GF

Can you also fine cyclists who block the road because they refuse to use the cycle lane right next to them!

syptweet BTPNotts DerbysPolice 👀

How about cyclists in drivers lanes?

How?

What about cyclists out of cycle lanes

For goodness sake is this Khan’s fleecing idea.

Same should apply to cyclists in car and van lanes

That’s fine but it should also be made law that where a cycle lane is available cyclists should not be allowed on the road.

Cash cow again

Great giving the in titled cyclists more to feel good about. About bloody time the police started to fine cyclists for jumping red light jumping on and off pavements to go round red lights etc etc you lot wanted all this for your cycling show respect and follow the Highway Code.

What about cyclists obstructing traffic lanes?

They need to plug the gap on that money lost during the pandemic

Grey tax grey tax grey tax all this socialist moron London mayor can do to Londoners tax them more from higher council taxes to congestion charges to ULEZ charges and funny things is the rest of uk they fined you for bus lane etc around £40 in London £160 Londoners enjoy it

As long as they have the correct signage in place.

Cycling.. one sees the body.. what a body!! Flash car One looks at the backseat, NOT the driver and admire the CAR, not the OWNER .. on a cycle, we admire the OWNER.. no one rides someone else's cycle.. Ann.!

Does that include the crowd rammers

What about cyclist ignoring red lights?

And fines for cyclists on pavements, going through red lights..

Sometimes they are unavoidable, roads were designed for motor vehicles that too have been designed for said roads. Then the introduction of cycle lanes narrowing those roads.... Am all for sharing the roads but this is beyond ridiculous

Terrible news Do they pay insurance? Have they all completed a cycle test? They COME OUT OF NO WERE LIKE FIYS! Sick off them

How about cyclists in drivers lanes or jumping traffic lights?

Any fines for the lycra clad lunatics when they run red lights and ride on pavements?

Partly bonkers & partly makes sense What happens if the road is empty & someone is over taking or ..........? That will result in fine.....

Those funding cuts from the government really are being passed on.

What about cyclists in drivers lanes, pavements, crossing red lines and consistently scaring pedestrians - when will those start?

The drivers are going to have to start driving on the pavements as soon they will have no road left if Khan has his way.

When will TFL begin issuing fines to cyclists on pavements?

Good news.

BorisJohnson SirGrahamBrady This is where we are all over the UK under a Tory govt. Might aswell vote Green or Labour next election anyway as they will just do the same but with less corruption. Whats the point?
