Locals have said the designated lanes are causing delays and disruption for road users.

Hundreds of people have signed a petition calling for cycle lanes installed on a busy stretch of road in the south side to be removed.

David McKay who launched the petition calling on Glasgow City Council to remove the lanes said he sits in traffic for over 20 minutes each way while commuting to work in the city centre. The congestion has led to complaints that the cycle lanes are having the opposite effect than desired and are resulting in cars idling causing more pollution.

Douglas wrote: "Utterly pointless and ridiculous for the amount of vehicular traffic it displaces and the amount of bicycle traffic that use it." Issues with the cycle lanes have been ongoing for a number of years with a petition launched in 2021 also attracting hundreds of signatures.

When has another lane for cars solved the issue?

Nope. Have another try.

The interesting thing about cycling is this... Road users want you off the road (on cycling lanes/cycle paths) But they also complain that cycle lanes/cycle paths exist. In reality, some motorists just don't want cyclists to exist at all.

It does seem like a bus lane here would offer cyclists virtually the same safe route whilst accommodating all other vehicles better. Is a sprawling housing scheme likely to house many keen cyclists anyway?

As a cyclist, i am all for cycle lanes and safe areas for cyclists of all ages, but there has to be a balance to accommodate all road users. The the cycle lane on the London road is a mess. The lane serves no purpose and just collects debris.

Get them all tae fuck.

Did anyone from GCC actually think about emergency services having to navigate through this traffic absolutely shocking

Get the to fudge

Remove them!

It’s the same with the cycle lane on Great Western Rd. It’s full of debris and unusable

Don’t remove them!

All that money wasted on cycle lanes outwith the city centre where you hardly ever see a cyclist using them.
