Well said Simon - I hope the Yorkshire Post gives Grayling a harder ' kicking' than usual this weekend - it's a weekly occurrence in the paper now to the chagrin of the DfT and local Conservatives

ben_machell Not just north/south divide it’s basically London/everywhere else divide. Billions spent on improving already comparatively excellent local transport links in London while the main train line to all of Cornwall and half of Devon is regularly closed

The scale of taxpayer subsidy to the affluent south (yes, of England) is grotesque. The scale of indifference to the not affluent north (ditto) is criminally negligent.

This headline is completely wrong. 'England's north-south divide'. Maybe an update in order? But I won't hold my breath

'Northern Powerhouse' anyone?

HS2 is not needed. What we need in the North is electrification of lines and rolling stock that is not 40 years old and falling apart. HS2 takes about 20 minutes off a journey from Manchester to London in the grand scheme of things this is nothing.

danroan Hs2 needs to be scrapped not just for the cost but the countryside and lives it ruins from here to Birmingham
