Requirements for most courses will be reduced to 'relieve the pressure and anxiety' for students.

The University of Surrey will drop entry requirements by one grade for most students applying for undergraduate courses next year.

Lizzie Burrows, director of recruitment and admissions at the University of Surrey, said: "We are taking this action now to relieve the pressure and anxiety facing this year's applicants, as they experience ongoing disruption and uncertainty surrounding exams and assessment of their learning.

Earlier this month, the University of Birmingham became the first higher education institution to reduce entry requirements in recognition of the impact of the pandemic. So a student applying to study chemistry will only have to reach two Bs and a C at A-level, whereas in previous years it would have been three Bs.

So 20 years from now the country will be filled with even more educated incompetents? Glad I'm on the way out of this demented and sad little galactic rock.

Because it's the laid-back students who never worry about tests or grades who become the leaders and achievers of the future...

Bollocks

They had a tough time and worry about entering the university. But it was good decision to make lowering entrance exam score. Hopefully Asian education system does that too

Woke wimpy W⚓️s

Still ran freshers events this year like idiots

Anxiety about what - just means there will not be enough places for everyone and will be more anxiety about that! Might as well cut out the university full stop and just give them all the degrees they want as they will not be worth the paper they are written on to employers! 🤣🤣

Why do I doubt that Oxford would follow suit? 😏

wow

Idont remember them doing it during the war

Degrees of any grade show a level of study. I left school with a very low A-level grade and a fail in another, but at least I did them. Personal overall intelligence is what really counts.

What is it with this word anxiety ...? it seems these days people find a new word they have no hear before and use it to play the victim, if so called experts along with the media stop hyping everything, then i'm sure we s would not have so many wimpy people in society.

Just shows how the education system in this country has downgraded to accept quotas as the new qualifications and not quality ...

In my O level yr my schl clsed 6 wks due 2 fire. We walked 2 playgrounds in uniform every mornin 2 collect work 2 do at home & drop of work done day b4 4 marking. No computers - books & paper. We ALL got decent results. How about teachin how 2 deal with probs with xtra effort?

Aww..Snowflakery wokery at its finest ...

Typical; just as the the is going to need to up its game to take its place on the world stage as a sovereign country; creating innovative opportunities; will employers have to lower job qualifications or recruit foreign workers in order to stay competitive?

Even more dumb wits will now enter

Our government is causing the anxiety and the BBC says nothing. You just go along with what they say is truth! DefundTheBBC bbc

That isn't how you spell 'make money'

....and standards.

Give them all a medal, bless their cotton socks. Ffs

As long as they give students more academic guidance & support, it's not a bad shout. I don't mean giving away answers but perhaps being more explicit about what they want to see & having a dedicated time for students to seek help with things they're stuck on.

The only anxiety is from their accountant.

Commercial education shameful.

“To relieve anxiety” Yeh right Because they fear a drop in numbers next year as many students don’t fancy laying out £9k plus rent to do an online course locked in halls of residence where they are treated like category A prisoners

That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

By 'entry grades' did you mean to type 'standards and intelligence'?

When the current younger generation get older they will need counselling and support if they fart.

To relieve anxiety for the vice chancellor.....?

More exceptional children?

All some will gain is an overestimation of their intelligence, a worthless degree and a lifetime of bitterness in not reaching the dizzy heights promised.

Basically, the Uni wants to get all that lovely student cash and is prepared to drop everything and let anyone in, just like your Ma. 😁

Real reason...Not enough students from abroad, especially China who pay whooping fees...So stuff your wokeness UniOfSurrey

The important thing isn’t that they’re intellectually incapable of performing university level coursework, but that they’re not feeling stressed about it ❄️❄️❄️

Relieving the university anxiety over, if any students will want to attend next year more like. Mismanaged finance means their stupid over ambitious building projects are turning into white elephants. With no financial benefit.

To get bums on seats

They will be giving out degrees that aren't worth the paper they are written on next. Oh hang on, they already do!!!

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Great

thanks
