Shops in England can open for longer in run-up to Christmas, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick says

Shops in England will be allowed to stay open for longer in the run-up to Christmas and in January, the housing secretary has said.Robert Jenrick said the relaxation of the rules would allow shopping to be "more pleasant and safer".Months of restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus have hit the High Street hard, and the hope is the relaxation of opening hours will boost business.

"These changes mean your local shops can open longer, ensuring more pleasant and safer shopping, with less pressure on public transport." Mr Jenrick urged local councils to offer retailers "the greatest possible flexibility" when determining trading hours. Shops and supermarkets would also be given more leeway over stock delivery times he said, to keep the roads clearer during the day.

Just to make absolutly sure gran ends up in hospital with Covid.

Wonder if people have got out of the habit now..click, click🤔

You know what is coming after the order is given? More and more lockdown.....and the cases of infection will spike.

borisjohnson Msg to your pal Jenrick What’s the point of opening shops for longer when those of us in Tier 3 are not allowed to travel to the shops - I live in the Country which means I have to travel into a city but can’t as in T3 - P*ss up & brewery come to mind FFS 😡😡

BBCPolitics

Thus throwing thousands of ecstatic shoppers in a huddle together who then set the numbers surging again.!!!!!

BBCPolitics Fabulous if you live near a big city eg L0ndon but if you can't travel to shops hell for the rest of us. And no, not everything can be bought locally despite trying hard.

Kind of proves that covid isn't really 'a thing' if were as serious as you tell everyone. You couldn't pick and choose, what closes and what stays open. Pretty obvious 😏

Wales to be the sacrificial lamb! The strictest National restrictions due to be announced by Keir_Starmer puppet MarkDrakeford NOT with the Welsh public’s interests top priority but aimed at giving UKLabour a new angle to target BorisJohnson Shameful political point scoring

Oh thank you. We’re so grateful at being allowed to go to shops.

Psst... Amazon is open 24 hours a day...

So this is Tory covid plan, have 4 weeks lockdown and work hard to get cases and r rate down, then go and toss all the hard work and sacrifices that go with lockdown out the window. Oh bravo Jenrick well done. So just remember all this when we head into Lockdown 3

Lol 🤣

Oh good, that will help!

BBCPolitics Congratulations peeps. Some of the best and irrelevant whinging on this thread that I have seen in a very long time.

So give restaurants and entertainment a fighting chance and let them open too..with care..

That’s really going to help. Businesses having to pay wages, light and heat, all at great inconvenience to staff. And of course the virus doesn’t work nights does it? You couldn’t make this shit up. Hang on, the Government already are...🙄

He’s just making things up on the spot, normal for Tories and keeps the BBC happy.

Please, we are already opening extra hours . Do your research properly. Retail staff work conditions are worsening by the day. We have the government to blame

BBCPolitics Very good of the Government to allow this. Who the fuck for Bojo think he is!

Not sure how shops would increase their profits. It maybe quieter for the shopper but more costly to the shop- wages, electricity, heating etc. Suspect the shops would rather we all came during normal shopping hours

But pubs can't open at all

BBCPolitics Don't tell the virus!

BBCPolitics we know lockdown is a force for positivity-i do hope the idiots are not going to go into lip dibbling mode again and screw it up-patience and discipline.

yeah, ‘cos retail staff don’t need a break 🤦‍♂️

BBCPolitics That's great that the virus knows not to infect people doing Xmas shopping.

A Christmas... that totally necessary holiday which is totally about the baby Jesus and Christian faith and not about spending. Remind me again why we just had to have Christmas this year and couldn't have gone without just once? 🤔

BBCPolitics Done all mine, cards written, presents wrapped and will only go to shops for food now.

Even in tier 3

Grovelling with gratitude

ShopOutToHelpOut the virus. The Third Wave: Coming to a Brexidiot dystopia this January.

hahaha- then the mystery wave 3 will be blamed on us lol

Thank you Mr Jenrick.

all pubs & restaurants need to do now is just shove a couple of clothing rails up in the back and they are good to go “shop while you drink” SCAMDEMIC2020

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE LOCKDOWN THEN

Thank you Nigel Farage, tireless campaigning has paid off !

Corona’s reaction to this news: 👇🏻

Given that shops are allowed to open 24 hours a day except on Sundays (which the article says Sunday trading rules will remain) how can shops be allowed to be open longer?

Another knife in the back for family run businesses and a stick for large corporates to beat their minimum wage workers down. Not only shitty wages, but shitty wages for night shifts.

What if vaccine doesn't come until February, it basically means we will continue to die before it arrives
