'Pingdemic' threatens shop openings say supermarkets

that the number of people being forced to self-isolate is "a major issue across every industry at the moment".

But she added: "We provide guidance and support for colleagues who may need to self-isolate including sick pay and have Covid secure controls in place in all our stores to ensure we can continue to operate and keep them open. Throughout the whole of the pandemic, we have not been required to close a store."

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak initially said they planned to keep working on essential government business under a pilot scheme that involves daily testing. Around 900 workers at Nissan's Sunderland plant have been sent home after being told to self-isolate. The union Community, which represents steelworkers across the UK as well as people working in logistics, said rising cases of coronavirus coupled with staff members having to self-isolate, has led to a lack of drivers being able to work.

'Pingdemic' causing chaos with 500k alerts last week. Has ANYONE done the maths and worked out that 100k cases a day = 700k cases a week?! Soon we're going to have many more people at home cos they're sick. Great for the economy?! SummerOfChaos ToryCovidCatastrophe

‘Pingdemic’ is working on algorithms and not by testing the person for infection. It’s a ‘money making’ ploy so that someone making money out of all those panicked being ping. This must stop or very soon there may be lawsuits under fundamental human rights and refunds to be made

No it doesn’t. Tell the supermarkets to shut their Moaning cake holes they have stayed open artificially inflating prices all over this pandemic. You can spend your corrupt profits of temp staff and stop moaning

Supply shortages are entirely due to Brexit, staff shortages in stores are largely due to Covid.

How the fuck can this totally incompetent government carry on this charade with pingdemic, you know full well what you're causing is another lockdown by stealth.

Ain’t it the truth?

DELETE THE APP AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE.👍🏿👍🏿

It’s the pandemic that is threatening, this is very irresponsible framing of the situation. Fewer cases in the community will reduce the pinging. You are encouraging people to focus on the wrong part which could encourage people to delete the app which won’t help at all!

‘Pingdemic?’ Have the BBC the ranks of the covidiots using words like that? The pings are a symptom not a cause.

You should be required to get a pcr test if you’re pinged and only required to isolate if that test is positive.

Turn it off and DeleteTheApp come on guys it's not difficult.🤦‍♂️

England's R rate falls slightly ahead of Covid rules ending on Freedom DayThis is despite daily Covid cases in the UK hitting their highest number since mid-January today Case numbers & R-rate are both irrelevant now. Previously this level of R rate would have meant lockdown, now it means “freedom” come Monday. 10DowningStreet still intent on killing us off. Of course cases are going up - more people are taking tests! What is the % of tests that are positive? Is that going up? No one knows? Anyone who does a home test will only report positive (hopefully) and negative will go unreported. It’s all about the number in hospital.
