Parents are being urged to return consent forms to allow their children to be tested for coronavirus, amid concerns from schools.Pupils are due to have three initial tests at school or college before moving to home testing.
But officials in Leicester said in some city schools as few as 25% of parents had filled out the required paperwork.Martin Samuels, Leicester City Council's strategic director of education and social care, said the picture across the city's 38 schools and colleges was "varied"."But that is at the moment and a number of children may turn up with forms on Monday, so hopefully numbers will go up.
He acknowledged some families feared the financial impact of having to self isolate if their child tested positive, but he said there was support available.Gulbanu Kader, principal of Rushey Mead School which has about 1,800 pupils, said there were a number of issues behind the slow take-up. "I think it comes from misinformation from social media and some of the conspiracy theories about the pandemic," she said.Rushey Mead reported it had 67% of forms back, while the other secondary schools in the Mead Educational Trust - Castle Mead and Orchard Mead - said they had 75% and 65% respectively.
A Department for Education spokesperson said: "We encourage everyone to consent to testing, following in the footsteps of the staff and students who have already taken millions of tests over the past weeks."
Yes we must urgently increase our number of ‘false’ positive cases so that we can keep you all living under a regime, by stressful invasive testing of children 78 times a year despite all the research papers available on the potential harms to children and against WHO advice.
I have, but schools and parents have been told they can’t have a positive LFT checked by having the more accurate PCR test. Why? Surely it would make sense to avoid any unnecessary self isolation for children and their families. Given up trying to understand anything.

Once the children see their friends getting them I’m confident they will be asking for their parents signatures. Children are a lot wiser than us look at how we gave up smoking, put on seat belts, keep our distance & wear our masks ❤️
No test, no school. Simple. It's only you denying your child's education and every other childs safety. 15 seconds and result 30 minutes later. It's part of our duty to end lockdown restrictions.

To all Parent's out there. Your children belong to you & not the PM or his Government or anybody else in our Country. Nobody has I right to tell you how you bring up your children or what you say or do in your children's lives.
It should’ve been opt out rather than opt in, then those who just can’t be bothered to fill in a form would still have their kids tested
Why do they need to be urged? If there was a real issue they would just do it. There isn't and never has been. The issue is with the schools and.many who run and work within them.

My daughter's school is testing next week, but after that it's up to parents to test their kids twice a week, take the tests to the centre 12 miles away and then pick up the results. Nearly 50 miles a week for 880 kids' tests. I think the petrol companies are behind this!

The child could consent to these tests? For most children they would have the capacity to consent under the Gillick cases. It seems strange parental consent is required for this. However if the child went for the pill or abortion advice they would receive it without consent!

If they don’t consent will they be denied article 28 of the UNCRC which states all children have a right to education? Also, all well and good asking parents but children should have a say in this too. They too should be consenting.
