Jonathan Sumption, former British supreme court justice, slams ‘cavalier use of coercive powers’ and ‘loss of freedom’

The government has deliberately stoked fear over coronavirus while behaving like an authoritarian regime relying on police state tactics, according to the former supreme court justiceIn his most forceful critique to date of the government’s handling of the pandemic, the outspoken lawyer condemned the way “the British state exercised coercive powers over its citizens on a scale never previously attempted”.

He should have stayed on the Fast Show.

Even the families of the dead?

This speech should have been live on the BBC tonight. No need for any Lockdowns or Vaccines. A Total overreaction, done on False information. Stripping people of Liberties.

Does this bloke have any relevant qualifications or expertise that would make his opinion valuable?

Can he leave comments until it's over please?

You are right too my uncle, you expect to die 😀

as responsible adults we need to be alert to the fact that the current policing of Covid 19 runs the danger of ceding too much democratic freedom to the state.

Finally the guardian has an article with a sensible voice..

He said the same in May 😴

Cupid stunt Conservative talking out of his rectum.

such as yellow fever in Río de la Plata by 2nd half of 19th century?

Says he from his Cotswold cottage no doubt

Clearly not backing the collective effort.

Lord Sumption: 'Fear has always been the most potent instrument of the authoritarian state. Fear promotes intolerant conformism and provokes abuse at anyone who steps out of Government’s line. These are the authentic ingredients of a totalitarian society.“

Would this Conservative like to explain to my wife why her lungs have been damaged by COVID and also her kidneys. why don’t to make explicit reference that he is a Conservative and Libertarian ? He is as bad a Trump

Just like black out in the blitz, eh? That was clearly overdoing it

Hysteria and panic pushed by the media

Fun fact: most judges aren't physicians, let alone epidemiologists.

Ok.

This has exposed the worst of the western ruling class! Treating people as slaves, attack on integrity of ones body and human rights.

Spoken like someone whose kids weren't coming to see him anyway but he'd like to pretend that's the excuse.

Right up there with the Salem witch trials and Orson Welles jolly Jape ...but on a much larger scale. Civilization eh ? 🙄

Sadly I suspect he's mostly right. When we dig ourselves out of the collective debt we can set about analyzing what a silly fuss it all was and how MSM in particular were leading the hysteria charge

His appointment was, too . . .

Thanks ex judge but you’re not a doctor or an expert in epidemiology. So I’m going to listen to them.

My neighbor has a friend who’s driving a cab. He once had a passenger saying that his barber said the same thing. Thereby confirmed by two sources and therefore a FACT!!1!1!1

Folly... hilarious folly. 84,000 new cases in the US yesterday are just tickled pink with the nonsense of it all. I think this chap has out grown his wig.

They teach epidemiology and virology at law school?

Ahhhh great to hear from someone who has no expertise in the matter.

Why has Rowley Birkin QC left the Fast Show to chat shit about coronavirus?

When the book on the history of the 21st century is written...2020 will have the biggest chapter, the year the world allowed stupid politicians to destroy itself 🤯🐑🤯🐑🤯🐑🤯🐑🤯🐑

Ah, so he thinks we should have more than 367 deaths a day.

He stated: “I do not doubt the seriousness of the epidemic, but I believe that history will....' 'I BELIVE'...what a profound and scientific argument. ...anyway, i like his nice hair

People don't want to die. What's foolish about that?

He is correct . Yet, has not been allowed on the BBC much despite being the Reith lecturer of two years ago. Sumption is right, the government is badly wrong. Ex Supreme Court, his view trumps that of dodgy models masquerading as 'the Science'.

No, it was election interference in how it was handled by the State Governments using lockdowns. A travesty!

‘Collectively, studies strongly suggest essential prohormone-and-nutrient vitamin D, is a far more effective potential basal COVID-19 treatment, than any additive pharmaceutical available to date.’

He is very far outside of his area of competence. Less, politely, he doesn’t know what he us talking about.

Legend.

Ah, projection. We meet again.

Oy vey no! We arent allowed this opinion!

Yeah right. He's too scared to go to the barbers

Just like back during the Spanish Flu! Oh wait, that didn't happen. They wish they had done more.

Why you asking this guy

BlueWave2020 COVID19 Biden
